I’ve worked in the Home Office for over 15 years. After leaving college I worked in fast food, spent a few months working with children in camps around America and then settled on a job in retail. After 4 years with no opportunities for promotion, I grew tired of the retail sector. I wanted a career with more prospects, so I applied for a job with the Home Office.
With this role, I really enjoy solving problems, helping others and sharing information with colleagues.
My usual day involves organising compliance visits with customers and conducting interviews with them. I also write reports and discuss cases with my colleagues. Talking to different customers is interesting and at times educational!
At the Home Office, you can work towards personal goals, develop your career and learn new skills. They’re not the only benefits – I can work flexible hours to suit me, and we’ve got a decent pension too.
There are excellent opportunities working at the Home Office, whether you’re a career changer like me or you’re just starting out. If you want to work with the public, you can make a real difference here.
