Hi, I’m Prabjit, and I work as a Caseworker in the Resettlement Services team at the Home Office.
I joined the Home Office in 2021 and moved to the Resettlement, Arrivals teams in 2025. This team is responsible for arrival and logistics planning for refugees and eligible individuals arriving in the UK under various Afghan immigration schemes. The work is both high-profile and operationally complex.
I was inspired to join the Home Office because of its mission to protect and support vulnerable people. The opportunity to help refugees resettle safely in the UK really resonated with my values. I wanted to be part of a team that makes a real difference in people’s lives, offering hope and stability during incredibly difficult times. Working in this space allows me to contribute to something meaningful every day.
From sales to public service
When I was at school, I wasn’t sure exactly what I wanted to pursue as a career, but I had always found it very rewarding to connect with people. I went on to work in sales, and I did enjoy this career. However, as well as having a strong work ethic, I’m driven by a desire to make a difference. Over time, I realised I wanted to contribute directly to public service, and this led me to the Home Office. Here I’ve been able to tackle challenges, grow professionally, and support outcomes that really matter to people’s lives.
A key part of my role involves reviewing and progressing cases through the resettlement pipeline. I am committed to ensuring that all prior and post-flight arrangements are in place for safe and coordinated travel. This includes reviewing medical documentation to confirm that appropriate support is in place for the arrival of applicants to the UK.
I work closely with internal stakeholders such as Border Force, Visa Operations, the casework teams and the accommodation team. I also work with external stakeholders including local authorities, International Organisation for Migration and cross government stakeholders such as the Ministry of Defence.
Thriving under pressure
The role can sometimes require working to tight deadlines and managing fluctuating workloads with incoming flights at short notice. This work has given me a strong appreciation of everything involved in operational delivery as well as the importance of being flexible and working collaboratively.
In addition to my core responsibilities, I offer support to my colleagues by helping to resolve issues where possible and providing guidance and assistance when carrying out our daily tasks. I take pride in contributing to a positive team culture and in being part of an organisation that is committed to delivering high-quality services with integrity and care.
It’s more than a job…
Thinking about a career in the Home Office as a Caseworker? I’d say go for it. It’s a place where your work truly matters. Whether you’re supporting vulnerable people, improving public safety, or shaping policy, you’ll be part of a team that values compassion, integrity, and service. There are great opportunities for growth, and you’ll be supported to develop professionally while making a real impact. It’s more than just a job – it’s a chance to help change lives.
