My name is Michael, and I’m an Operations Manager within the Detention Services Compliance Team. I’d like to tell you more about my role and what it’s like to work here.
I’ve been with the Home Office for 8 years now having come from a background in Mental Health Services. I had been interested in joining the Civil Service for some time as it’s important to me that the work I do makes a difference to society.
There isn’t a typical day for me; no two days are the same! I could be collating evidence or working with the team to improve our services. I am based in an office, but I spend a lot of time visiting other Detention Centres to make sure our contractor is delivering services as agreed. Although I am based at one site, I sometimes have the opportunity to contribute to national projects too.
My day-to-day role is extremely varied and fast-paced. Operational change can happen quickly, and I make sure changes happen as agreed, safely and effectively. I really love the variety of work. Each week brings new challenges, and I enjoy finding positive resolutions.
