We’re recruiting 100 Immigration Officers to work in our National Asylum Intake Unit (NAIU) as part of the Intake Response Team (IRT).

About the role

The National Asylum Intake Unit is made up of over 800 officers and it registers around 70 per cent of asylum claims nationally, the remainder being registered through Immigration Enforcement and Border Force. 

The National Asylum Intake Unit is responsible for establishing the identity and registering asylum claims from people in different categories, including:

• Small boat arrivals 

• Lorry drops and other clandestine arrivals 

• In-country claimants 

The Intake Response Team sits within the National Asylum Intake Unit. The Intake Response Team is a mobile unit which can be deployed to any National Asylum Intake Unit location or Home Office approved site at short notice, for extended periods.  As this is a mobile post, you should expect regular travel across a number of locations, which may result in overnight stays for several nights to provide a continued response, particularly during seasonal surges. 

The Intake Response Team have a strong team working ethic and if appointed you will be working alongside, and deployed with, the other officers in your team. Teams are comprised of up to 10 Immigration Officers and a Chief Immigration Officer who will lead day to day operations. Travel and Subsistence expenses would be paid in line with policy.  Full training will be provided as part of your role. 

The Intake Response Team is a 365-day operation that operates shifts including earlies, lates, nights, as well as weekend and public holiday working. Shift lengths can vary and be up to 12 hours. Rosters are published in advance, but shifts can change or extend according to business need. An Annualised hours Allowance is paid in addition to the monthly salary to compensate for out of office hours working and flexibility. Details are below in the salary and allowances section.

More about the roles

  • Bedford, Croydon, Dover, Leeds, Newcastle-upon-Tyne, Solihull

    • National: £25,750 – £27,650
    • London: £29,750 – £31,950 

    Plus allowances currently averaging 48.65%. The Annualised Hours Allowance is to compensate for working shift patterns which can include night shifts, early morning starts, late night finishes, as well as weekend and public holidays. This allowance is subject to regular review.

    You must hold a full valid manual or automatic UK driving licence.
