We’re recruiting Asylum Decision Makers across the UK - Home Office Careers

We’re recruiting 300 Asylum Decision Makers to join our Customer Service Group teams across the UK with a starting salary of £30,000 and additional allowances after 12 and 24 months.

The closing date for applications is 19 May 2025.

The Customer Services Group brings together Asylum & Human Rights, Asylum Support and Dispersal, Asylum Accommodation Centres, Resettlement Group, Passports, Citizenship & Civil Registration, Customer Operations Support Services and UK Visas & Immigration. As a major operational arm of the Home Office, we play a vital role in supporting the economy and cultural life of the UK.

About the role

You will work directly with people seeking asylum and play an important role in offering protection to the most vulnerable. By refusing those who do not qualify you will help maintain effective immigration controls for the U.K.

You will work closely with non-government organisations, local authorities, legal representatives, and the wider public sector to achieve this.

Working as part of a supportive team, you’ll conduct asylum interviews, following processes to make the most appropriate decisions on asylum cases. You will consider legislation and case law and produce letters on behalf of the Home Secretary to outline reasons for your decisions.

Asylum decision making is a hugely rewarding and very satisfying role, where you will be responsible for making life-changing decisions on an individual’s future.

To help you in the role you will be supported, coached and mentored by an experienced team and provided with full training enabling you to make considered, timely and fair decisions in line with Home Office policy, guidance and case law.

Equality, diversity, and inclusion are at the heart of Asylum Operations. We are a diverse team serving diverse communities, so respect is one of our key values. If you are motivated, hard-working, committed and looking for a varied and stimulating role, we have much to offer you.

Working Arrangements

Working arrangements for this role are currently set at a minimum of 60% in the office and up to 40% working from home. This may change in the future subject to business needs.

Please note, for part time working the minimum hours are 25 per week, due to the intense training and mentoring required within the first 6-12 months. However, all candidates need to be able to work full-time during the formal training, which usually takes place in weeks 2-4 and 8-9.
