Hi, my name is Ginny, and I’m a Customer Service Officer, working in the Resolution Centre.
I’ve worked at the Home Office for 5 years. Previously I worked in administration and secretarial positions. I was interested in the Customer Service role at the Home Office because it offered the opportunity to support the public, responding to queries relating to the EU Exit Scheme.
A typical day at work starts with our team getting together to discuss key updates, then we log into our systems to take calls, deal with email and webchat inquiries.
I get a lot of satisfaction helping to resolve queries that matter to people. I also get to speak to and interact with customers from all different backgrounds, which I enjoy.
I work the evening shift, and my partner also works shifts. My job fits well around both our work schedules and days off, which are not always on a weekend. This means we can go on city breaks mid-week if we want to. I also enjoy not having to get up too early. After 40 years of working a 9 – 5 job, I can now enjoy the daytime hours when I can do as I please.
Overall, the Home Office is a great place to work, – with many opportunities to progress your career.
You can also participate in different learning activities within the Resolution Centre, offering you a variety of ways to develop your skills. You will have the opportunity to use your communication or technical skills depending on your interests and you’ll work with a supportive team to help grow a career with us.
The pay and pension contribution are also attractive. There is also a scheme to reward staff for a job well done.
Career progression at the Home Office is encouraged and there are opportunities to try new things. The team is friendly, sociable and we all have a common goal to help customers, and this makes working at the Home Office a joy!
