We’re recruiting Operations Officers, Senior Operations Officers and Operations Managers to join our Detention Services Compliance Team at locations across the country. The closing date for applications is Wednesday 16th August.
Immigration Enforcement is responsible for enforcing the government’s immigration laws, tackling illegal migration, removing foreign national offenders and immigration offenders from the UK.
These roles are part of the Compliance Team, who are based onsite to ensure that the Immigration Removal Centre (IRC) is run safely and securely, adhering to policy, standards and legislation. The team monitors a broad range of activities, from checking the quality of cleaning and catering to monitoring use of force and removal of residents from the IRC. Working within the Compliance Team is both interesting and challenging.
An Immigration Removal Centre (IRC) is a secure building that holds detained individuals prior to their removal from the United Kingdom or for nationality and identification purposes. There are currently six IRCs in England and one in Scotland, with two more planned to open soon in Oxford and Gosport. Free onsite parking at all the IRCs is currently available.
Hybrid working
These roles offer the ability to work from home for part of your week. Home Office hybrid working practices means you will be required to attend your workplace on an average of 40% of your working hours. Successful candidates will be able to obtain further information from their line manager.

More about the Operations Officer role
We’re recruiting 48 Operations Officers to join at locations across the country.
As an Operations Officer, you’ll monitor the standards within the Immigration Removal Centre (IRC), ensuring effective delivery of contracted services. This is an exciting opportunity to work in a fast paced and varied role. As part of the Compliance Team, you’ll ensure the IRC adhering to policy, standards and legislation by regularly walking throughout the IRC, interacting with supplier staff and the detained residents.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Responsible for monitoring contractual compliance, providing regular performance summaries and feedback to the Home Office Compliance Manager.
- Manage the team’s shared inbox, responding to enquiries in a timely fashion.
- Monitor and report on the transfer of residents from the IRC onto their chartered removal flight.
- Assist in giving advice about the policies and procedures of the IRC to managers, including responses to parliamentary questions and other official correspondence.
- Be available for an out of hours on-call service for Detention Operations rotated between team.
- Assist the Senior Operations Officer with the production of monthly reports that provide essential data and statistics relating to the IRC.
- Ensure residents within the centre are provided with an effective service in line with Detention Services Performance Standards & Framework.
- Monitor the IRC supplier’s compliance with the contract, ensuring that the site is run in a healthy, safe and secure manner in accordance with relevant legislation. Providing regular updates to your manager.
- Carry out Immigration Enforcement’s statutory duties around the IRC, including authorising the use of temporary confinement or removal from association for residents as necessary.
- Collecting, processing, and auditing complaints in line with the policy, working collaboratively with the complaints department.
- Represent the Home Office at a range of meetings that include, planning in the difficult removals of residents, daily operational meetings, resident consultative committees, Independent Monitoring Board (IMB), security, healthcare, and safer community meetings.
- Occasional minute taking at some meetings (shared between the team on rotation)
- Provide high-quality thematic reviews into contract delivery and dip sample reports on a range of areas enabling requisite assurance of contract delivery and adherence to policy.

- Representing the Home Office at a range of internal and external meetings, including operational strategy meetings, internal and external stakeholder and supplier meetings, daily capacity review meetings.
- Supporting the Service Delivery Manager with their duties – chairing monthly operational review meetings with suppliers and in other duties such as representation at senior management meetings.
- Production of monthly reports that provide essential data and statistics about contract delivery and the population in the centre.
- Occasional travel required for face-to-face meetings with managers from other IRCs.
