My previous role was in the private sector as a Policing Consultant and I was not enjoying the daily grind of hitting profit margin targets. I wanted to do something more meaningful and contribute to UK PLC like I had done previously in the British Army, Serious Organised Crime Agency and National Crime Agency.
Since joining the Home Office I have enjoyed every single day and the quality time off I get. My role is challenging and varied, I manage multiple technology suppliers across a range of enabling projects which deliver capability to front line policing. All my colleagues have very public-spirited attitudes and are passionate like me about public service.
The thing I enjoy most about my job is the outcomes, I get to enable Police Officers to do their job in delivering sustained public protection, saving lives basically. It is exciting and something I will probably do as my vocation through till retirement.
We are paid well, but most importantly valued by our Senior Leaders and consistently reminded what a great job we do. There are also some great benefits, such as the Civil Service Pension Scheme, flexible working and days off for volunteering to name a few. There are also many opportunities for development and promotion.
I am extremely proud to say I work for the Home Office because what we do is so important. I want to reassure potential employees that it a great environment to work in and I encourage any Project or Delivery Managers that enjoy working in the technology space to apply and come and work in a fantastic inclusive environment with likeminded people that really care about delivering a quality service that makes a difference.
