Hi, my name is Stephen and I have been working as a Senior Technical Delivery Manager in the Home Office for over a year.
I’ve worked as a Delivery and Programme manager for many years in diverse industries, such as Medical Research, Policing and Law Enforcement and Travel. I started off in the Cruising industry and then moved into IT support and software development.
I decided to apply for my current role because I have worked for many organisations that help and protect others, including Cancer Research, the Police, Ageing and Healthcare. It was important for me to continue working in an organisation that aims to change lives on a large scale. I was also impressed by the breadth of departments covered by the Home Office and the opportunities this presents.
My duties in this role vary, and no day is the same. As a Senior Technical Delivery Manager, my work usually involves shaping software and system deliveries, working with stakeholders and suppliers, and improving our National Automatic Number Plate Recognition (NAS) product.
What I enjoy most about my role are the technical aspects and working alongside talented colleagues. Also, there are so many benefits of working in the Home Office, such as the extensive opportunities on offer and the chance to enjoy a great work/life balance.
My advice to anyone considering working in Delivery in the Home Office is to have a think about your area of interest, target that area and look out for relevant opportunities. The Home Office is a very diverse organisation that provides lots of career progression, opportunities, and interesting work.
