Chris (Project Delivery) - Home Office Careers

I joined the Home Office after 15 years in the Department for Work and Pensions. I was looking for a new challenge where I could apply my project management skills to projects that delivered public protection. I have now been here for 16 years.

There is a real variety of activity in my role from supporting colleagues in their learning and development, to focusing on the challenges of resourcing our projects and programmes. What I really enjoy is the fact that I am able to work with a hugely diverse and interesting range of colleagues both within my own team but more broadly across a 2,000-strong project delivery profession. Even better, I am able to support brand new colleagues fresh out of school or University to begin building a long-term career – both in the Civil Service and the project delivery profession – and pass on my experience and knowledge.

It’s the breadth and purpose of the department’s work that really gets you out of bed in the morning, as everything we do contributes to public protection. There are also lots of opportunities to progress your career, and the commitment and friendliness of colleagues makes the Home Office a supportive place to work with a genuine commitment to creating an inclusive environment.

I would recommend the Home Office as a great place to shape your career whether this is your first step on that ladder, someone like me who joined at the mid-point or even those with lots of experience and knowledge to bring to a rewarding area of government activity.
