I’ve been in the Home Office for 7 years following 5 years in the Crown Prosecution Service. I wanted a career change and the Home Office was recruiting so here I am!
When I was at university, I’d wanted to pursue a career in law but since I joined the Home Office my career aspirations have changed!
A typical day can be attending a high volume of meetings, so planning my day in advance is essential and enables me to be productive. When I’m not attending meetings, I will be collaborating with our stakeholders across the Project Delivery Profession, such as providing critical advice with upcoming or emergent resourcing requirements, career development support or analysing resourcing data across the profession, which feeds into the quarterly reporting cycle.
What I enjoy most about my job is being able to make a contribution to the department’s important mission; this motivates me on a daily basis.
The Home Office is a great place to work because there’s something here for everyone regardless of your background, ethnicity, gender, skills etc. Everyone will be able to find something that caters to your skills and capability.
However, it’s a complex organisation, so don’t expect to understand all the processes within a short space of time. But when everything clicks, the sense of fulfilment cannot be described in words (well at least for me!).
