I joined the department from the Cabinet Office in July 2020 as Chief Commercial Officer, in the middle of a lockdown.
I started life as an apprentice and combined work and study in Business and Finance. I have worked across the private sector in various areas manufacturing, pharmaceuticals, construction, utilities, water and nuclear before joining the Civil Service in 2016.
I wanted to join the Home Office because I could see the great and challenging work done in the Home Office and the culture that senior leaders were introducing. I was motivated to bring my skills to support the department’s mission and the way they deliver for the public.
My day to day work is challenging and varied as it touches on all areas of Home Office work, but what I really enjoy is working with the people in my team. I also really value being a part of the wider Home Office team and the direct connection we have with the citizens we serve.
It is great to be able to witness first-hand the excellent work that our teams do and the unconditional desire to serve the UK. It builds a greater connection to the job you do and helps protect the public purse.
I would say if you are passionate about making a difference and wish to join a department that listens, learns and makes positive steps forward with great leadership then come and join us.
