The Commercial profession sits within the Home Office’s Chief Operating Officer Group and helps the department deliver priorities by running procurement and supporting the delivery of contracts that impact critical public services.
Across the wider Commercial Directorate, our colleagues support the Home Office to procure and manage third-party contracts worth billions annually – including the procurement of security and operational support services that enable the safe and resilient delivery of Home Office operations, through to passport production and technology and specialist support, while also providing assurance for grant funding.
We’re seeking commercial managers to work across teams in the Home Office to secure value for money and the right supplier outcomes for services that matter to the public.
Whether you bring a public or private sector background, you will receive opportunities for development including the study towards CIPS or professional commercial qualifications.
This is a great opportunity to build exposure across the commercial lifecycle: procurement, contract award, and contract management, within a large and complex portfolio.
We’re recruiting for the following roles:
Assistant Commercial Manager – Home Office Digital
You’ll procure and/or manage contracts that enable Home Office Digital delivery covering areas such as IT equipment (hardware/software), cloud services, specialist tech skills and consultancy, application development and maintenance, networking, AI, and software/licensing. Some vacancies may include line management responsibility.
In these roles, you’ll play a key part in helping teams across the Home Office get the goods and services they need to deliver for the public. You’ll manage procurement activity and work with suppliers to understand the market whilst securing the best outcomes. Along the way, you’ll build strong relationships with colleagues and partners. You’ll also help manage performance and risk, and look for ways to support continuous improvement across the commercial team.

Who we’re looking for
We’re looking for commercially confident professionals who can work at pace and build strong relationships to get things done. You’ll have experience working in procurement and/or contract management, with a good grasp of commercial best practice and governance. You’ll understand how the commercial lifecycle fits together and have hands‑on experience in at least one key area, such as sourcing, contract award or contract management. You’ll be comfortable using commercial systems to support compliant activity, able to juggle competing priorities, and confident communicating clearly with stakeholders and suppliers, including interpreting contractual terms. CIPS qualification (or working towards) is desirable.
