Our team

Our Systems Design team is passionate about taking organisational complexity as an opportunity to create clarity, efficiency and impact.  The team’s work provides direct support for ministers, the Executive Committee and operational leads, ensuring strategic decision-making supports business outcomes as well as user needs.

We’re developing a strong team to own and develop department design, dive deep into business processes, strategies, and systems – then architect them to be smarter and more connected.

These roles are based within the Migration & Borders Group, the team responsible for policy, legislation and reform of the immigration systems and a centre for excellence to deliver international interventions and engagement.

Within the System Design team, our strategic objectives are as follows:

  • To champion the move from overly siloed structures towards a more joined-up, flexible system approach.
  • To deliver an integrated approach to intervene against immigration and national security threats.
  • To act proactively to enable the system to respond to crises, address gaps, identify issues and opportunities.

We’d encourage you to apply if you’re a systems thinker, a strategic problem-solver, and someone who thrives on assimilating complex information and creating solutions. See specific requirements below.

Reasons to join

This is a fantastic opportunity to join the System Design team, which is at the forefront of important and meaningful change. At the heart of a forward-thinking government department, you’ll contribute to impactful projects that shape our strategic output. We offer a supportive environment that values innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement. In addition to a healthy work-life balance, you’ll benefit from a comprehensive package of benefits. See details below.

We’re recruiting for the following roles

Business Architects

You will apply business architecture to guide strategic interpretation, business design, transformation initiatives, and operational performance. You’ll work collaboratively across teams to ensure holistic and effective solutions.

Using tools like capability mapping, value streams, and operating model design, you’ll create a design language that helps senior leaders spot gaps and seize optimisation opportunities. Your work will unlock potential across the organisation and shape important business decisions.

To thrive in this role, you’ll need a BIZBOK qualification or equivalent. A strong foundation in business architecture principles is essential, as too is a background working with large and complex organisational architecture.

Business Analysts

Our business analysts use high impact analysis to build a strong evidence base to help inform mapping, drive business value and shape strategic direction.

We’re looking for demonstrable experience as a business analyst. Whilst you may not have applied your skills for system design/business architecture previously, you’ll be well versed in guiding strategic decision-making, and ensuring solutions are aligned with user needs and measurable outcomes.
