We’re recruiting one His Majesty’s Inspector (HMI) to lead our Immigration Enforcement Criminal and Financial Investigation team in Glasgow.
Here, you’ll take ownership of serious and complex investigations into organised immigration crime, gathering evidence, interviewing suspects and witnesses, and building robust cases. It’s a role where your expertise and judgement help protect the public and maintain the integrity of the UK’s borders.

You’ll receive a starting salary of £47,200, plus employee benefits. You’ll also receive an Annual Hours Working Allowance (AHW) of 31% which equates to an additional £14,632 per year based on the minimum salary.
Immigration Enforcement is responsible for enforcing the government’s immigration laws, tackling illegal migration, removing foreign national offenders and immigration offenders from the UK. About the role
As a HM Inspector, you’ll lead and manage the Criminal and Financial Investigation team in Glasgow, driving work to combat organised immigration crime. You’ll oversee investigations focused on identifying, disrupting, and dismantling criminal networks that exploit immigration routes and vulnerabilities.
Working from the Scottish Crime Campus, you’ll collaborate closely with partners including Police Scotland, the National Crime Agency, and HMRC, building strong operational relationships, sharing intelligence, and contributing to joint investigations. You’ll play a key role in strengthening the collective response to serious and organised immigration crime across Scotland and the wider UK.
Qualifications
Successful candidates must hold minimum PIP Level 2 accreditation or Scottish equivalent leading serious and complex investigations in a senior investigative role.
Professionalising Investigation Programme (PIP) is a four-level accreditation programme under the auspices of the National Police Chiefs Council and the College of Policing. PIP is an accreditation programme for Detectives and Criminal Investigators.
All candidates will be required to undertake a mandatory PIP 2 accreditation check pre-interview. Candidates who do not hold PIP2 accreditation will have their application rejected.
Working Arrangements
This role is full-time.
Successful candidates will need to be able to attend for all shifts including early starts, late night finishes, and overnight shifts. These shifts may be outside of public transport operating hours.
Due to the nature of the work and the geographical area, travel is required – including driving official vehicles. Therefore, you must hold a full UK driving licence.
Training
Training begins in the classroom and continues on the job through a local mentoring programme. Support will be tailored to your needs, with access to experienced colleagues and guidance to help you develop in the role.

- You will need to be a confident self-starter capable of working with a minimum of supervision and able to manage the expectations of multiple stakeholders communicating objectives and plans

The successful candidate must be able to demonstrate:
- Minimum PIP2 qualified, or Scottish equivalent in leading serious and complex investigations in a senior investigative role
- Managing resources and using analytical skills to make informed decisions
- Knowledge of law enforcement, criminal investigation and the Scottish criminal justice system
- Experience of leading and managing teams
- Excellent written and oral communication skills as well as strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to positively influence stakeholders at senior and junior levels
- A high level of personal organisation and the ability to effectively delegate tasks and prioritise own and others’ activities
