We're recruiting a Senior Product Manager - Home Office Careers

The Home Office Digital team enables the Home Office to keep the UK safe and secure. Our teams do this by designing, building and developing the services that help people apply for visas or passports, support policing and counter-terrorism operations, and protect the UK’s borders.

To achieve this, the Home Office relies on talented people with a wide range of skills to deliver some of the most ambitious technology programmes in government — using data and digital innovation to deliver smarter, faster, more accessible services for millions of people.

Real-World Impact

Sitting within the Multi-Agency Public Protection Service (MAPPS), we’re recruiting a Senior Product Manager to support the development of a complex agile offender management system used by police, probation and prison services. Once live, the system will provide a multi-agency oversight of offenders when they are released from custody for as long as they are considered to present a risk to the public.

The role will be focused on the strategic MAPPS Product and the long-term direction of its development or on elements of the overall Product. You will ensure these elements are sufficiently understood for development teams to design and build.

‘The MAPPS delivery team is multi-disciplinary and friendly. The successful candidate will work alongside user researchers, interaction designers, architects, business analysts and engineers to deliver the product our customers need. The importance of this product in the effective management of some of the most dangerous offenders in our society has led to a high level of commitment across the team and a supportive culture where we are looking for the development to be a collaborative success.’
Michael, Programme Director (MAPPS)

Join the team

We’re looking for a candidate who can clearly demonstrate their experience of personally delivering a product at a detailed level within large and complex software development. You will be able to show how you have investigated patterns to identify and resolve problems, how you have balanced the needs of users and the strategic owners of software products and how you have adapted methods of communication to particular situations.

As a Senior Product Manager sitting within MAPPS, this role would suit a candidate who is enthused by getting to grips with the detail in a software delivery, collaborating with other disciplines and product owners to solve the design and development issues within that detail.

This role is unlikely to appeal to those who prefer to keep to a more strategic level or are seeking budgetary or commercial experience as these aspects are handled elsewhere within the Programme.
